Long-Distance Medical Transportation

Planned non-emergency transportation for medical destinations beyond a rider’s local community.

01

Transportation designed around the rider

Long-Distance Medical Transportation should feel organized, respectful, and predictable. National Transit takes time to understand the rider’s mobility, pickup environment, destination requirements, appointment schedule, companion needs, and return-trip plan before transportation is confirmed.

Our role is transportation—not medical care—but we recognize that the quality of the ride can affect a person’s comfort, confidence, and ability to access important services.

02

Who this service may support

  • Patients traveling to specialty care
  • Riders referred to regional medical centers
  • Seniors and people with disabilities needing longer routes
  • Families coordinating transportation between Minnesota communities
  • Ambulatory and wheelchair users when appropriate vehicles are available
03

What the transportation may include

  • Advance route and schedule review
  • Comfort planning for longer travel
  • Accessible vehicle consideration when required
  • Rest-stop planning when feasible and arranged
  • Companion travel when confirmed
  • Return or multi-day coordination when available
04

Planning the trip

Longer routes require early planning. Provide exact origin and destination, appointment time, estimated duration, mobility needs, number of travelers, luggage or equipment, return plan, and authorized contacts. Availability and pricing are reviewed individually.

Please share accurate pickup and destination information, the requested arrival time, mobility needs, whether a companion will travel, and whether a return ride is needed. Our team will review availability and confirm the final trip arrangement directly.

05

A respectful, non-emergency experience

Drivers focus on courteous assistance, safe vehicle operation, clear communication, and the rider’s dignity. National Transit does not provide emergency response, clinical monitoring, stretcher transportation, or hands-on medical treatment during the ride.
