Our safety approach

Safety is a system—not a slogan.

National Transit builds safety into trip planning, driver expectations, vehicle readiness, passenger assistance, and communication.

01

Before every trip

  • Confirm pickup, destination, timing, and mobility information
  • Match the trip with an appropriate available vehicle
  • Review special access instructions and companion details
  • Clarify return-trip expectations and contact information
02

Passenger-centered assistance

Drivers provide only the non-medical assistance arranged for the trip. They communicate respectfully, avoid rushing riders, and pay attention to safe entry, seating, wheelchair securement, and vehicle exit.

Passengers should share mobility or access needs during scheduling so the trip can be reviewed properly.

03

Vehicle readiness

  • Routine cleanliness and visual readiness checks
  • Working seat belts and passenger restraints
  • Wheelchair securement equipment when applicable
  • Clear pathways for boarding and exiting
  • Climate control and passenger comfort considerations
  • Timely reporting of maintenance or safety concerns
04

Emergency boundaries

National Transit is not an ambulance service and does not provide emergency medical care. If a rider has an urgent or life-threatening condition, call 911. Riders who require clinical monitoring, medical intervention, or stretcher-level care should use an appropriate medical transportation provider.
